The Battle of the Blood Queen
Here is the narrative of the Battle of the Blood Queen. I left a few things out for narrative purposes and tried to write it in the style of a translated legend or myth. For those of you hoping for a detailed description of the horseman falling on his ass I apologize.
- Spoiler:
It was nearing the end of the third month when our heroes reunited with Jumaga, their ally whom they had not seen in many weeks. It was Hevkos the Crafter who suggested that the party return to Seaside, with the intention of finding a way to explore underneath the Seaside Villa.
On the group’s way back to Seaside, as they passed by the site where they had previously slain the Turtle God, and it was there that they encountered the followers of Borak Bakush. Borak Bakush was a legendary horseman whose work was known throughout the land. The party avoided any serious conflict and arranged a meeting with the great horseman to negotiate his use of the land.
After the group made it back to Seaside they began to investigate the sewers under the villa and eventually found their way to the mouth of a cave. Inside the cave they were greeted by the ghost of a small pygmy man who told them that they were entering the residence of a goddess known as the Blood Queen, a cruel and murderous titan of death who would awaken alongside her children and bring death and destruction to the entire world. After some deliberation, the group decided to make a plan and take action. They returned to Seaside.
Once the group was back at their base, they immediately began pooling their resources. Word was sent to all of their allies: the crab people, the mystics from the valley of the stars, and even Jai Lung, the Storm Dragon and it was Jumaga who had the idea to seek a new and unfamiliar ally. Within the basement of the Seaside Villa were large boxes in which a series of vampire warriors slept, and Jumaga decided it would be wise to enlist their aid and attempt to turn them against the Blood Queen, who had been their former ally. After using a spiritual mirror to commune with the vampire warriors, they agreed to help in the battle if the need arised.
With the forces rallied, they prepared to move on the cave when Borak Bakush arrived for the negotiations. Aelister, this Silver Diplomat, met with him and was able to enlist his aid in the upcoming battle alongside the force of horsemen he had brought with him. It seemed that the stars were truly right for our heroes.
They began the battle in the daytime, with the great storm dragon tearing a hole in the mountain to let the sun in. Once the whole was open, a swarm of winged women like warped angels flew up into the sky to attack our heroes. Jumaga met them in the air atop his giant bat, and the horsemen flew around the cave entrance pelting them with arrows. Aelistar and the mystic known as the Meditant, who was in the form of a giant beast, began to rain magical fury on them from atop the cliff. Not content to fight on the enemies terms, the warrior Jaya took the form of an enormous ape and leapt into the cave to battle the Blood Queen’s minions in their own home. The storm dragon brought a torrent of rain into to fill the cave, and as the water level rose so too did the vampires.
Wicked and monstrous, one of the undead fiends rose up behind Jaya with the intention to strike him down but he was caught off guard as a rift between realms opened between the vampire and Jaya. From within the rift came Moonbow the Unicorn, charging in his own escape from the very pits of hell. He impaled the vampire upon his horn and struck him down. Another vampire arose but now Jaya was ready and he struck the creature down before it even got to its feet. To further the heroes advantage, the mystic Moka summoned a pair of Lantern Archons that encircled the heroes. It was then that they first felt the presence of the Blood Queen herself, a large unworldly fiend that moved beneath the now high water. Jaya braced himself to engage her but their conflict was intercepted by a large silver fish. The two mystic beasts disappeared beneath the waves and for a moment everything fell quiet.
The quiet was interrupted by the rumbling of the caves shaking beneath the water, and then as suddenly as it began the battle was over. The monsters vanished. Though she had not been slain, the Blood Queen had been forced to retreat.
The mystics came in and said many prayers and put many blessings on the cave to protect it from the Blood Queen’s return.
Re: The Battle of the Blood Queen
I like it. You definitely gave it an old legend sort of feel.
